Background and Introduction
What MODAF support is available here and elsewhere?

This diagram illustrates the range of information available to those wishing to find out more about MODAF.
The solid boxes represent information provided within this website, and explained further in the previous article. The term “MODAF Technical Description” refers to the introductory material and viewpoint definitions provided within this website.
Note that the Glossary and Acronym lists are specific to MoDAF and have been carried over from the previous documentation release. DG Info through ICAD maintain the Defence Terminology which should be viewed as the MoD source for all commonly used terms.
The lighter boxes represent information available outside of this web site. Except where otherwise indicated, this information is available from the MODAF web site (opens in a new window). The information available includes:
- A formal definition of the MODAF Meta-Model (M3) (opens in a new window).
- A description of the ontology which underpins MODAF
- A definition of the model interchange standard for MODAF, which is based on the XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) standard
- Deskbooks which provide helpful advice on using MODAF within particular Communities of Interest (CoIs). Note that these were written for Version 1.0 of MODAF and will be updated as best practice emerges for the use of later versions of MODAF. Those deskbooks currently available are:
- IPT
- Concepts and Doctrine
- Customer 1
- Customer 2
- Sustainment
