Service-Orientated Views (SOV)
SOV-3 Capability to Service Mapping v1.2

The Capability to Service Mapping View (SOV-3) depicts which services contribute to the achievement of a capability.
NAF v3 Equivalency
The NAF v3 equivalent view is NCV-7. The use of services in Strategic Views in MODAF is inappropriate, as Capabilities are supposed to be defined independently of how they are to be achieved, hence the mapping to capabilities sits more comfortably in the SOA Views.
NSOV-3 in NAF v3 is a mapping from operational activities to services. This is an inappropriate view for the MODAF SOA views, as Services are to be defined independently of the usage (so as to foster re-use and prevent stove-piping).
Background:
If network enabled capability is to be delivered by the orchestration of loosely couple services (i.e. a service-oriented architecture), it is important to know which services have the potential to support particular capabilities. An SOV-3 presents a simple mapping of services to capabilities, showing which service contribute to which capability.
Usage:
- Service specification & planning
- Governance
Data objects:
The data in an SOV-3 can include:
- Service(Operational, Information and Application Service)
- Capability
- Service Aims to Achieve (relationship from Service to Capability)

Relationships Between Key Data Objects (Simplified from M3)
Representation:
- Tabular
- UML

Detailed Product Description:
An SOV-3 can be presented as a matrix with capabilities on one axis and services on the other.

Tabular Representation of SOV-3
Alternatively, SOV-3 can be presented as a diagram showing tracing relationships from capabilities to services.
